Complutum ArabiansShort History of the StudKeeper of the studs of Kristian Fenaux, created in 1972, and of the Roberto and Gustavo Calle brothers, funded in 1986, complemented with several important mares of the Veragua and Félix Salas studs, the Complutum Arabians Stud has proved that a serious and persistent breeder can obtain in a few years the highest ranks if he tries to. What's important is to get an excellent starting genetic material, knowing how to make choices at the time of selection, and to bet without further questioning for quality. The genetic base that Complutum Arabians has today is one of the most complete that can be seen in a world wide level. Amongst the "pure spanish", the Spanish origin blood lines, there is such a wide ammount of quality that it allows all possible crossings. By a side, coming from the Kristian Fenaux stud, there are the lines of "Tabal" and "Malvito", represented by "Mel Nácar", son and father of European Champions, and mares of the "Verana" family, all direct granddaughters of one of the most famous daughters of "Malvito": "Comedia II". Fromt he other side, there are the lines of the Calle brothers Stud, bringing a selection of great quality mares, with Domecq and Méndez origins, and stallions such as "Borneo" and "Motamid", whose son "Abbas Pacha", grandson of "Abutig" by his mother "Halconera", is the prototype of this genetic combination. To this base, more select horses were incorporated, in a classic breeding program that could catch the work done for decades by the best breeders. That is how several excellent mares came to Complutum Arabians from Yeguada Militar, Veragua, Diego Méndez and Miguel Osuna, from whose ancient lines three important mares from the holland Stud Melissa were imported: "Mel Galina", only daughter of "Jalisco" in Spain, "Mel Quebría" and "Mel Quelinka", mother of the mare who a few years ago was World Champion. Today, we can say that in Complutum Arabians there is a representation of the best "pure spanish" origins of the last fifty years. On tp of these Spanish lines, Complutum Arabians opens itself to the Arabian horse world with the incorporation of egyptian, polish and russian origins, with the goal of extending the gentic base with whch to work with. The horses that stand out in this group are "Nipkov", son of the World Champion "Balatón", the sons of the World Champion "Crusader": the stallion "Rub Al Khali" and the mare "Vent du Sud", and two products of the Triple Crown winner "Ekstern" ( World Champion, European Champion and Nations Cup Champion), the young stallions "Adamski" and "Fiocco". In Complutum Arabians, the mares and young colts enjoy a life of semi-freedom, going out daily, and coming back to their box or to the wide free stables, to complement the alimentation and care-taking individually. All stallions work daily, some mounted and others on the walker, where also mares and some colts and fillies go in. A revolutionary walker in it's conception, using a rectangular track, eliminating the charge that the circular walkers produce in the interior hand, reaching a better general musculation and diminishing the risk of injuries. Amongst all the quality for which Complutum Arabians is known today, it's most emblematic representant was the famous "Arabian Beauty", son of "Mel Nácar" and "Cerámica", three times European Champion (1995, 1996 and 1997) and Absolute Spansih Champion of Stallions in 1998, and keeps being symbol of the stud, where new generations stand out for their great quality, extraordinary beauty and exceptional movements, a polyvalent quality that allows them to stand out in morphologic and sport competitions. The 2003 year started in a dramatic shape due to the death of "Arabian Beauty", the first day of the year, an unrepairable loss, for his quality and for all that what he represented. Nevertheless, the end of the 2003 season was seen with another perspective with the extraordinary success of Complutum Arabians in the Spanish, European and World Championships. The successes, national and international, hapened throughout the whole year, starting with the first show of the season in Torrepacheco, to continue with successes in Arabes&Co 2003, Bordeaux, Sabadell and Lalín, to crown them all in September with the Spanish Championship, where "Ingrid" and "Marien" were Spanish Champions of mares and fillies, respectively, and "H Estudiantes" Reserve of Champion of Colts. In November, "Ingrid" and "Santa María" were classified amongst the best of the European Championship, in Verona, and back in December, "Ingrid" was top Ten in the World Championship of Paris, becoming one of the ten best mares in the world.
From a historic point of view, the next year, 2004, will be remembered as a hit without precedent, since at the end of the summer, the mythic Andalus breeder Dieg Méndez Moreno and Complutum Arabians reached a deal for which the breeding work and selection of Méndez would be continued by Complutum with the creation of the stud Yeguada Diego Méndez SL and the adcquisition of all it's effectives. With this adcquisiton, the continuity of the Méndez work is warranted, and Complutum Arabians confirms it's bet for the highest quality.
